Ha, I know what that's like Anja. I lived in London for almost 11 years - we moved back to Germany last year - and I only intended to stay for four years or so, while I was doing my degree...
OH is still learning German too.

Re: Wow it is so quiet here!
Hello all!
We are located in Frankfurt! I wish I had a German speaking partner, that would have made things easier and I would have learned German already... But unfortunately that is not the case...
I also came here on a business trip just for 2 months... and as already said have stayed for 5 years already!
I think babywearing is the one thing in my life so far that is really teaching me German! As I like to come on here and read all the reviews!!!

It was OK actually. Our house wasn't ready straightaway so we were staying with my parents for a few weeks, which felt just like a holiday in Germany. Except at the end of it we moved in to our new home in Germany instead of flying back to the UK. We've all adapted to life here very quickly and enjoy living here. I often do miss London and especially my friends there but being close to family and old friends again is great too.Anja_UK hat geschrieben:What was it like moving back after such a long time?

Not necessarily as you can tell from all our partners, who are still struggling with the German language several years later.Asphodel hat geschrieben:I wish I had a German speaking partner, that would have made things easier and I would have learned German already... Re: Wow it is so quiet here!
But there seems to be a big difference between english speaking people and "others". Sorry to say that but I think most of the english speaking are lazy. We´ve been in Scotland for almost 3 years and all of us are fluent scottish
speaking. And we know so many foreigners here in Germany who don´t speak our language reasonable after 20 years. Don´t get that
So, and back to the topic, I´m still homesick
I miss Scotland soooo much even after a year back in Germany. Today is my best friends birthday and I can´t be with her

Re: Wow it is so quiet here!
I am always worried that things have changed too much in the past 13 years and that I would not feel at home anymore (but then my relationship to my sister is very fragile and sadly that rubs off onto the rest of my family).coccolone hat geschrieben:It was OK actually. I do agree that a lot of English speaking people struggle learning another language - I do think it is difficult was most of them seem to grow up under the pretext the whole wide world speaks English and there is no point in us learning another language. It is what I struggle to teach the kids in school and make them understand that even a little goes a long way

A lot *has* changed...but so have I.Anja_UK hat geschrieben: I am always worried that things have changed too much in the past 13 years and that I would not feel at home anymore (but then my relationship to my sister is very fragile and sadly that rubs off onto the rest of my family).
I can imagine that a fragile relationship with your sister/family would make a possible return somewhat more difficult.
